Hi everyone, hope you can help me
I am looking to develop my website and want to put a member registration tool on it - I have tried searching the internet but to be honest am not sure what I actually need. What I want to achieve is to be able to get members to register entering any necessary details and for them to set up a password I want the process to be as secure as possible.
Any help most appreciated

Hi Vicky,
Is it that you want to set-up a forum or do you want to have a members area for your website, something like a content management system?
Regards,

I'd recommend using a CMS (content management system) such as Xoops. Using an Xoops tutorial its VERY easy to set up, very customisable. You can have forums, blogs, whatever you want through Xoops Modules which you would install onto your website. They all integrate with a logon feature etc

Joomla is my personal favorite, I've set up a few sites using that content management system. Its really easy to setup if you have a web host that offer CPanel with Fantastico script installer. Most good ones do now and it allows you to install Joomla or Xoops at the click of a button, all configured. I personally use 99chosting.com (<<not a referral link, just a host that I use - I get nothing if you click this link!) as they have a large number of choices on their fantastico installer page.
The good thing about using a content management system is that registration can be totally automated for you and it allows you to totally control who can enter what parts of your website.0 -
Hi thanks to everyone for all the advice
ben.bull - Sorry I should have been a bit clearer I dont want to give out too much detail as I dont want to be shouted at for "trying to promote my site" or anything - but bascially what I need is a very secure way of members registering as I will be putting a shopping cart etc on my site so need members info to be very secure. I will take a look now at 99chosting.com to see if its suitable for my needs.
mercilesskiller thanks for the info -I will also look into Xoops thanks for the adviceRemember is nice to be important but more important to be nice0 -
A CMS like Xoops, with a shopping cart module
That's what i'd be looking into personally if it was for a home business type thing.
For a large corporate place you'd want to get one specially developed[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

Just to let you know, 99c offer Cpanel + Fantastico hosting which means that you'll get several free shopping cart scripts, you could ask them for a demo? I did when I set up my site with them and they gave me a demo hosting package for a weekend! Must be keen to break in to the market I guess.0
