Wood Burner Installation

I have purchased a Wood Burning Stove and having a problem to get a sensible price to install it. I have a flue built into a chimney so it just involves moving the stove under the flue and connecting the exhaust pipe to the rear of the burner and the flue above.
The first Hetas approved installer put the phone down on me "cos he dont take customers with their own burners who get his name of the Hetas website cos somefing always goes wrong with the job" and the second one has quoted £1020 !!
I cant see that it take 2 hours.
What should I be paying for an installation? And does anyone have a recommendation for an installer in Herts?

Thanks for that. I could easily do it myself, but I am building a self build new house and Building Control wont sign it off unless I have the Hetas certification. It shows what nonsense it all is when you have to deal with a "qualified" idiot who puts the phone down on an enquiry he knows nothing about?0 -
Keep working down your list of HETAS registered installers i my suggestion. Hopefully you'll find someone who isn't VAT registered so immediately saving you 20% and giving you a sensible quote too.
I recently had a similar install to the situation you describe and following a ridiculous £1000+ quote eventually had a more realistic £280, complete with all necessary paperwork for building control.0 -
I just noticed you are self building so you'll be claiming the VAT back anyway.0

Don't know where abouts you are in Herts but my friends used this installer for their self build house in Cambs. They bought the stove and fitted the flue (he's a builder by trade) and he came in and connected it and signed it off. I think they paid around £500, but can't be sure.

If you have a hearth in place & supply materials I can't see why you would be quoted any more than £250-300.
It's never as simple as just sitting it under & connecting it up, although it seems like it should be.0 -
