cavity wall insulation

have had two gentleman round from a cavity wall company saying i only sign for inspection to be carried out and my landlord for the grant however after checking the forms online i since found out this not correct information i was mislead and it was my signature for the grant have a solicitor dealing with my landlord due to problems with him so on advice from my solicitor i informed the company wished my signature to be taken off the papers, had the same two guys from the company call round again yesterday with my landlords son who now claims the grant is in his name which i believe is false information as i am aware grants are in the name of the tenant i also believe the landlords son filled out the forms using my address as his address in order to claim the grant which i feel is unacceptable and am aware only the tenant applies for the grant not the landlord or his son

Does it really matter? There's a grant paying for it and you'll benefit from it.

Life is too short, in my opinion.

If you are unhappy with the way things have been done, which is understandable if the LL and his son have illegally applied for a grant in your name, then report it to whatever scheme the grant has been applied for under and possibly with Trading Standards too.

You might lose out on the cavity wall insulation and may find your LL unlikely to renew your tenancy when the time comes, but at least you'll have a clear conscience (and, no, I'm not being sarcastic).
  • If this 'grant' is ECO funding, neither you or your LL will get the money. The contractor carries out the works then claims and gets paid for the work.

As you are a tenant, surely as long as the property you live in benefits from cavity wall insulation, what is the problem? Surely the LL would have to give permission anyway.

If this is something different and the LL shouldn't have applied for this in your name legally - you'll need to give more detail (e.g. who is providing the grant, how it works etc) and somebody here might be able to give some advice. Maybe follow the route sandsni suggested.

Is the property eligible for the grant? Yes,or no?

The answer may depend on the results of an inspection/survey AND/OR the status of the tenant (eg benefits whatever) AND/OR the status of the landlord.

Provided all the qualification criteria are met, AND both tenant and landlord want the improvements done to the property, there is no problem.

If the criteria are NOT met but one or other person has lied, then there is a problem.

And if either tenant or landlord does not WANT the improvements done, there is a problem.

    Which is the case here?
