  • They can (and should) continue the investigation and mention it in any reference requests.

    Why?

  • Just trying to work out what's in our best interests going forward.

Get some advice, from a union or the citizens advice.

Resigning wont take the disciplinary away, employers could mention it on a future reference and legally an employer doesn't need to give an employee a reference anyway.

And if he is sacked or he resigns, the DWP will ask the circumstances of his resigning or him being dismissed so either way a decision will be made about whether he gets JSA or not for a time period.
  • Doesn't seem like it'll help then, just wondered if he'd then be able to get his notice pay but doesn't look likely.

No employer suspends anyone they value in any way, they would not chance them taking the oomf so getting another job is the first priority.
    Be happy...;)

MPs can't be sacked. The others are likely to have amassed enough wealth not to need to work again. Moreover any future employer will more than likely know what they were accused of thanks to our ever-helpful media. ;)

...A sitting MP convicted and imprisoned for more than one year must vacate their seat...

Since 1945 only two MPs have left or been expelled from the House for this reason - Captain Peter Baker (Conservative) in 1954, and John Stonehouse (Labour) in 1976...

"must vacate their seat" and "expelled" are just weasel alternative words for being sacked in my book.
