Fee for ending a listing early

hi, I need to end a listing early. The item has a bid but I now realise it's broken
I've just gone to the 'end item' and it says: 'By clicking the End My Listing button, you agree to pay an End auction-style listing early fee for cancelling bids and ending this listing, if applicable. See details'
I couldn't find any info on the details
Can anyone tell me how much this fee is. The item was listed yesterday on free listing day.
Thanks

From what I can gather it's equivalent to the Final Value Fee

    http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/end_early.html

Bit of a PITA to incur fees if it is broken though! But reading further down that page it says they won't charge for the first time a year that you do this.

thanks, well done for finding the page - I did look for ages

I think I cancelled one in about January.

So, in fact as it is probably 'collection' I might be best to let it run, then when they come to collect and see it is broken we agree to cancel the transaction and my fees are returned. (I wont do that, I'd be miffed if I was messed about as I buyer)

Most of my items average £5, typical that this one is about £45

I always use google to navigate ebay's help pages. It generally gets me in the zone quicker than following ebay's suggestions. :rotfl:

I tend to change the listing into something else or make the price so expensive nobody will bid ;)

I've done that when there is no bid but this item had a bid so it was not possible to change it.

However, I contacted the bidder and he understood and has retracted his bid so all is well, thanks

  • Alternatively you could bid it up to a ridiculous price with another account.

Then when you win simply cancel the sale

As you know, ebay does nothing about shill bidding.

Or do you think its fair ebay charge you for something you havn't even sold?

If you take it to a B and M auction house you'll pay if you withdraw your lot as well. Again this is just a reaction to all of us ending our items early to sell 'off' ebay.

It is odd though as it seems very few people are being charged- I ended one myself 3 days ago as I had made a mistake in listing something that my son had left for me but wasn't in the pile of things to be sold- I was not charged nor did I get a warning that I might be, and it was certainly not the first I've done this year.

  • Perhaps it is used just as a detterant.

I'd rather not take the riskthough, especially with expensive items.
