Bank charges

I complete today on my house sale but, to my horror, have just received a letter from my Bank advising that a cheque for £19 has not been met and I will be charged a £35 administrative fee. I am at a complete loss as to why my account is apparently "empty". I rang the Woolwich Openplan immediately but I could not answer all their security questions (I have not previously had to use these) and I am advised I must visit a Branch office. It did however occur to me that the redemption of my mortgage may have caused this problem. Is it likely that account has been cleared out/closed to settle the redemption figure? I am very anxious.

Quite possibly, yes, as I understand that OpenPlan is an offset mortgage, so when the mortgage was redeemed, it would have been for the balance owing in the OpenPlan account.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac
