Which car?
Hi. I am in the process of saving for a new car. Currently driving a battered Punto!
Considerations
Considerations
- Single person with only occasional passenger
- Travel an hour to work daily along country roads that will be terrible in the winter weather
- Would like to travel more socially, motorways etc

Range Rover.
Or how about a battered punto or even an unbattered one?
How much are you spending? How much do you want to pay on servicing?
What mpg are you expecting? What about insurance?
I cannot think of a single car that wont suit your needs.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Range Rover... hmm, I could have 2

I fancied a Freelander probably 2nd hand costing about £5k, but I have heard they are really expensive to run and repair if things go wrong.
So, something about that price. I have 15yrs ncl discount, no points etc. MPG, not a clue really.

If you like your Punto, why not consider only a slight change?PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -

be very careful with second hand freelanders. quite a few have been converted to 2wd due to ird/vcu problems. I looked at a good dozen a few years back and all of them had the rear prop removed due to this. Sellers were claiming it was removed due to reducing fuel - but it is normally due to failing VCU / IRD which can be very costly to put right.
I almost had a deal in place with a garage who wasnt aware it had been converted to 2wd when he took it in, admitted he knew absolutely nothing about 4x4s and only had this one in as a PX. I had to tell him over the phone how to check if it still had the rear prop in or not. He swore down he would get it sorted - until he realised how much it was going to cost and sent the car to auction instead. He refused to sell it to me stating that after the conversation I had with him about the 4wd system, what was missing etc that he had no confidence in the car and knew that his warranty people wouldn't cover it if anything went wrong. Fair play to him I suppose - was a really canny old guy.0
