iPhone to android - same phone - iMessages.

Hi

My mate had an iPhone and he switched to an android phone but kept the same number. I have an iPhone and every time i send him a text it defaults to an iMessage so it doesn't get sent. I always forget I have to change it to a text message.

How do we resolve this? Is it something I need to do or does he need to do something?

Any help would be appreciated!

Most helpful post I've read this evening :D

Go to your settings, and then messages, where it says Send as SMS, make sure that is on. It should send as a text message when iMessage is unavailable.

Cheers I've done that which will stop the undelivered texts but there much be something that stops it going initially as an iMessage? Any none iphone text goes instantly as a text. This starts life as an iMessage before switching to a text!

Delete (completely) his contact details from your phone, then recreate it?

(I'm guessing your phone knows it used to be an Iphone contact and so is treating it as such).

My son and I had this problem when I switched from an iPhone to an Android phone. Every time he tried to text me it would try to send as an iMessage. He had it set to send by sms if unable to send as an iMessage but it was a bit of a pest really.

Fortunately I still had my iPhone so put my sim back into it and turned off iMessage. Then my son was able to text using sms.

If he doesn't still have the iPhone, then follow these instructions to deregister it.

It seems like my friend has to deregister his phone from his apple account. That will solve the problem as it will stop my phone thinking it's on iMessage.

This could cause problems as the mans an idiot :)

Not if you remember to do it before getting rid of the iPhone. ;)

If he phones Apple Care on 0800 0480408 they might be able to do it for him.

Not that idiotic if it takes a forum to untangle the situation that is all Apple's making with their walled garden mindset! ;)
