Keeping cool in summer.

Options
With tv forecasts predicting more heat and humidity in the coming days I'm thinking of spending some money on a cooler or air conditioner but would appreciate some advice on what to buy.

I saw this offer on the Boots website but accept that it won't be brilliant for thirty quid, any other suggestions?

Try Lidl, who were selling something very similar for £12.99.

I have been looking for something to cool things down as well. Do these 'coolers' actually do what they say or would I be better getting an actual air conditioner that would produce cold air ???

The are more expensive but I don't just want to replace my desktop fan with another fan that just circulates the same warm air !!!

    Advice and thoughts please.
Your really can not beat a good bargain !!!

Surely all fans actually heat the air as the motor warms up and disspates its heat. The cooling effect is the draught.

I have an air conditioner - approx £150. Its brilliant and I most certainly wouldn't be without it. But then I wouldn't but a car without aircon either.

I find the best fans are at least 16" or greater - at which point most will want hair nets - if only to stop going bald.

I have fans in every room at the moment (menopausal :o) hot all the time

The noise drives me mad and I end up turning them off at night to get some sleep ::)

Is your air conditioner less noisy than fans ???

If so can you recommend the one you have , it seems a reasonable price ;D

    Much appreciated :)

We have a fan just like the one you saw in boots, got it from Homebase when it was half price, just £30.

It is very good, cools down the room, but is perhaps a little too noisy for at nighttime. That said, it has a timer on it which you can set for anything up to 12 hours, after which time it will turn off. So we often set it to turn off after 2hrs, by that time we will be asleep, and then won't get woken up by the noise of the fan.
