We have one of these, and it is situated behind our gas fire in the living room fireplace. So the chimney is the flue.

I don't think you are alllowed to fit them any more, although I don't know why as ours has worked without any problems for years now. Aparently if it goes wrong we will have to replace it with a condensing boiler or something similar.

The fire and boiler are basically a single unit, combining the boiler and the fire. no more dangerous than a normal boiler, in fact potentially less so as any gas leak would go straight out the chimney.

they can still be fitted as a direct replacement, but only if there is not a viable alternative. lots of building regs apply.
  • A gas man told me today, there going to be phased out within 2 years???

Does anyone know any more info regarding this?
