Benefit entitlement calculator

Good morning

I have a quick question on the calculator. Currently my children are living with the ex wife and she's getting the child benefit and tax credits.

I've tried the calculation but i'm unsure as to wether I put the dependent children down. If I don't the only benefit i can get is a discount on council tax and as my wage has been dropped by £5K it will be a bit of a struggle.

Should I apply with them as dependents or just call the tax credits office to see if i'm due anything. Obviously the later route i dont want to take as less for her would mean she tries to gain more via maintenance

  • Sorry but only one parent can claim benefits for children. You will be treated as a single person without any dependants. Sorry not what you wanted to hear I know.

I thought that might be the case. Suppose i'll have to be nice and see if i can pay less, although i will still inform the tax office as my wage had been the same for about 3 years so they will need to know the reduction, Thanks for the reply
