My father had a loan with HFC bank going back to the 1980s and have accepted his claim for a ppi refund. The offer only goes back to 1998 is there any reason for this? any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

It's possible they only have details which go back to 1998, do you have details for the period before?0

Probably thought that's all you wanted, goodwill to all men and that?
Or perhaps they are short of a few quid themselves at this time of year?
If the bank have accepted the claim, is there any indication in the acceptance of the reason?0 -
If I remember correctly, HFC was not a member of the old Banking Ombudsman scheme, which in any case only dates back to 1986.
Try to claim back further and you may find it gets passed to a higher quality investigator who spots this. If so, they may withdraw the offer and then you get nothing.0
