Car trade in question...
Options
We have traded our car in, and have got a really good trade in price for our car. When I've been looking through some of the documentation, there is a page saying what essentials to bring when we trade the car in. The usuals are on there V5, locking wheel nuts etc, but it also mentions tax disc.
The tax disc has about 5 months left to run on it, and when we spoke to the salesman, he had only been there a week and was insiting that we had to trade the car in with the tax. I'm not sure if they used that as part of the trade in value or not.
I'm thinking of taking the tax out of the car as soon as we arrive at the garage, and then only handing it over if they ask for it.
Has anyone else been in this situation, or know where I stand if they notice that the tax isn't in the car anymore?

where are you buying your car and what did you sign?
I bought a car from parks and the salesman specifically said the disc was not part of the deal. i then forgot to take it out of the car (also had 1/2 year left to run). I retrieved it from them asap as you can imagine.
but they also told me that they take the discs and immediately cash them all in once a day. i was lucky because they were doing some repair work on my old car and it was still there. the guy did say there would have been no problem because they would arrange to give me the cash instead if they couldn't find the disc.
i think it depends on if you have signed anything saying you'll leave it.0 -
They normally tell you that the tax disc is part of the trade-in value.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0

They said it was part of the deal, however they guy had only been there a week so I think he was just making sure he got everything right.
I'll leave the disc in, as we got a really good price on our car, they can make a bit of money back on the tax.

Hello yakyak
I'll move your thread to the 'Motoring & Public Transport' board.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.
