Amazing how biased these boards are. The posters who occupy these forums will excuse the most extreme abuses of right wing power using petty excuses. Even the Torygraph are appalled at this one!
Cameron's help-to-buy poster girl bought flat through her own firm

Critics hit out at Cameron's help-to-buy publicity stunt after it emerges buyer is BMW-driving estate agent

But the Tory spin machine has been left with one or two embarrassing questions after it emerged that Mrs Ray is an award winning and well paid estate agent who purchased the flat through her own property firm.

It certainly shows some bias as virtually no-one in the real world would be 'appalled' by a politician 'managing' a photo shoot about a nothing event.

So on the one hand it's a nothing event.

But on the other hand, theres a whole photoshoot, airtime etc, and the prime minister spending, presumably expensive and precious resources sitting drinking tea in a house because someone bought it.

    but is that 'appalling'?

wrong for PMs to meet real people?

bad bit of PR but truely appalling?

as far as we know the women was legally entitled to receive deal; just because she as a tory supporter, an estate agent and has use of a company car really has nothing to do with the deal.

in fact I rather like the casual way our politician interact with random real people and then things go wrong : it wouldn't happen in many countries that's for sure.

Well I wouldn't define it as appauling. More dissapointing that this is the best that they could come up with to try and sell the policy to the nation.

I think the best way I can dscribe it would to be a bit slimy. Maybe underhand using such a person, of whom they would have known her situation to start with.

The whole thing just doesn't stack up. Apparently split up with her partner (and remember, single mum WAS the focus of the PR) in July, but only married him in June. So their marriage lasted less than a month? Hence her twitter has been closed down as has her instagram account as the honeymoon photos from June were on there. The press are rightfully asking whether she's really the single mother she was made out to be. That's nothing to do with having a go at her, it's having a go at the PR stunt pulled, which was very much about the single mum hence so many photos of her, cameron and the child pointing at stuff.

Theres just something not quite right about the whole setup. I don't really care about the marriage, I care that it was put across as something which it may not have been in order to sell the scheme to others via the beeb.

I agree it's good our politicians get out there and do this. But if they are setting it up from the start and and accounts have to be closed down as a result of the questions that stem from such a high profile news event....well, I'm not sure that's so great.

I agree that it is all odd and we don't know the full facts.

Certainly, a failing of central office to allow the PM to get involved without a top level investigation of the persons circumstances, previous convictions, marital status, CRB checks etc, etc.

But on the whole I rather like the amateurish way that UK politics is conducted and enjoy these !!!! ups by our 'leaders'.
    Long may it continue.

The Independant has picked up on it and is running the story now.
    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/news/david-camerons-struggling-single-mum-helptobuy-poster-girl-purchases-own-145000-flat-through-her-estate-agency-firm-9041091.html

Sums it up in this paragraph...
Writing anonymously via a blog in a post that quickly became viral, one critic went as far as to post pictures of Ray's car, claiming that she had hidden the fact she was an estate agent, lied about being single, and that she didn't even own the house she showed Cameron around.
Apparently it's "gone viral", so yes, it appears lots of people are annoyed by it. If not intrigued.

Number 10 have now insisted that as a "hard working, single mother" Sharon is just the type of person help to buy is intended for but they won't comment on individual circumstances.

Even MPs are voicing their concern on twitter apparently. So it's a bit more than what people are trying to dumb it down to on here.

very fair minded to quote an anonymous blog

I get a little annoyed that she used HTB as she didn't have a deposit. I find it hard to believe she was unable to save up a deposit as she seems to be a pretty successful....

So this raises the question that this scheme is furthering the 'have it now' mentality when people who could do it on their own but choose not to. Not that I blame them, as if it's offered on a plate then you would be silly not to take advantage - it just should not be available to those who don't need it.

The more I hear about this scheme the more I dislike it and think it's a very odd way to try to solve a problem which would solve itself if allowed....

Politics of envy. Pretty popular nowadays.
The fact that she's an estate agent and drives a Beemer acts even more like a red rag.

The only question to be answered is whether she qualifies. If yes, that's all there is to it, no matter what car she drives and how long she was married to whom.

    Enjoy the witch hunt. Appalling.
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.
