Diesel exhaust back box on a petrol car.
Options
Hi,
I have a Saab 9-3 with a 2.0 petrol engine, I have been looking round for a replacement back box which has twin tailpipes which exit the box through a cutout in the bumper ( the existing backbox has twin exit pipes which bend down to the road).
I have come across one which is a Saab original part but it is designed for the diesel engine, the physical size and fixings are identical so it will be a direct fit but I wonder what (if anything) would be the problems encountered in using a diesel backbox on a petrol engine? I wasn't aware that there was likely to be any difference between the two.
Thanks

The diesel will have slightly different sound-deadening properties, so you may get the odd resonance at some engine speeds, and (probably) be designed to flow a little more because diesels are always pumping their maximum volume of air.
It should work just fine0 -
Thanks for the reply,
You don't foresee any problems come MOT time?0 -
It might be slightly different note but it isn't going to be a straight through like an old Peco, if it fits securely with no leaks i'd bung one on without a moments hesitation.0

Definitely no problems at all - especially for the MOT.
Even if the entry pipe to the box was a different diameter that can be sleeved to fit.0 -

Could this not be classed as a notifiable modification as far as the insurance companies go? Since the replacement part isn't standard for the car?0
