    - how do you regulate the temperature if it gets too hot.

At £7 a day for gas I'd have to guess at opening windows!

I don't know how many units I am using, I am going to have to start monitering this thanks, I don't know what made me think Ebico would be cheaper tbh, probably the not for profit tag line.
Luckily I am not tied in if it turns out to be a bad move.

The heating won't actually be on all that time (I can't afford it) but I can be up early due to illness and my OH gets in very late from work, so ideally is heating is on from 5am untill 2am. I am also at home all day.
I can't find anyone to take the meter out without either a large deposit or a charge :(

Sorry, but this is the very first thing you need to do when considering a switch. You can't manage your consumption unless you first know what it is. 'Not for profit' does not automatically mean 'cheaper prices'.
Digital programmers start at about £60, you could save that back in one winter, given your huge usage. But as pointed out above, if you run the CH as much as 21 hours a day, it's bound to be expensive-that '£7 per day' is actually only 33p an hour. Cut that back to say 15 hours and it'll be a fiver a day-an instant 30% saving.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

So what? With your usage the payback period is immediately.

£50 or £60 to change, £150 deposit - you're spending that in one month, anyway.

Of course, you can stamp your foot and say you would rather spend an extra £500 each and every year on principle rather than pay a returnable deposit and for a meter change - your (bizarre) choice.
  • If your heating is on 21hrs a day (which with all due respect and in the absence of a medical reason, is frankly ridiculous) then you really do owe it your finances to get the best possible deal for the crazy amounts of gas you are using. Combine that with a concerted effort to drastically cut down on your consumption and the future will be so bright you may need to wear shades.

Thanks for all input, greatly appreciated.
Good point about the meter charge, I suppose I wasn't sure if I am actually going to save enough to justify the outlay.
I am stuggling with the maths at the min, (brain scan next month) I hadn't actually thought it through properly, but my cognitive skills are impaired, I should of just left it alone how I am feeling!

Agreed with others that you shouldn't have switched without knowing your usage figures. Be aware though that with Ebico, your savings will come in the summer when usage is low and there's no standing charge. Winter usage will be higher than other tariffs for all but the ridiculously low users.

Switching out your meter will give you access to other tariffs but Ebico doesn't offer any other tariffs anyway. I suggest that if you get a grasp on your usage figures, switch to the cheapest tariff and get the meter swapped at the same time. You never know, the cheapest tariff may be with a company that does meter replacements for free.

Until then, stop using the heating nearly all day. It's pointless.
  • It's always a good idea to have a rough idea how many kilowatt hours (kwhr aka "units") you are using per annum for electricity and gas separately before doing a comparison.

I think the average for a moderately sized house is around 16,000 units of gas (if using gas heating) and 4,000 units of electricity. Ish.

I have just switched from Scottish Power to Ebico and after watching my gas prepayment meter (in horror!) I am now using £1 gas every 3 hrs (heating a 3 bed house and hot water).
This has gone up from £1 gas every 5 hours when I was with SP.
When?. The outside temperature will make a difference to gas consumption.
