Carbon footprint calculator

Its at www.direct.gov.uk/actonCO2.

I ran through it and I'm;

Home .91
Elec 1.31
Travel .63

Total 2.85

National average is 10.22
Target we need to aim at is 2.28

So I live in a modern house, drive an 800cc car and have the lowest energy bills of anyone I know but I'm STILL over the limit. Bummer.
Regards

    OK put it another way you can install as many low energy light bulbs as you like but all the time china is burning up coal like it's going out of fashion it's an utter waste of time. Plus even the scientific community don't even agree that 'climate change' has anything to do with carbon emissions anyway.

    The target is just a 20% cut. So when I get a result of 10.19, the web site gives me a target of 8.15.

    So it gives you a target that you should be able to achieve nd not just a general figure. Thats a bit more intelligent.

    I agree that china and india are going to be the big problem going forward. That doesn't mean we should be irresponsible too. There is also a big regional variation in pollution and europe as a whole can clean up its act and improve air quality and increase recycling. Its not something to write off by saying 'bollox'.

    I don't think the online calculator is very clever but it is a good general guide to how much some individuals are generating.

  • Sorry pal but I still say it's bollox. The only reasons why the UK government has jumped on this band wagon is so they can justify building nuclear power stations and to tax every conceivable thing you can think of in the name of green.

    11.95 cool I'm above average at some thing, I'll be aiming to get it up to 15 by lots of long haul flights while I still can
