I use the kindle app on my laptop and phone (albeit the phone screen is far too small for it to be useful) and find it's good, easy to use and gives you access to anything you want to buy from amazon.
I think Kobo do an app too, and presume theres a facility built in to ios devices as you can buy ebooks through itunes. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Amazon has some free books/stuff that can be saved onto kindle app.
App will also save PDF/other files to read on it.

Type free kindle books on amazon search bar, also think prime members get access to more stuff.
Other free material is available on other sites.0 -

penny, you can download the Kindle Reader app from here ... make sure you select the correct one for your android device.

Alternatively, if I remember correctly, the Google Play Store has the Kindle app too.
The Kindle book store is here and if you scroll down and look to the right of the screen there are 100 free books listed to get to started. You will need an account with Amazon.

If you want to read ebooks in epub format, install Aldiko from the playstore. Your local public library probably has epubs available for loan via their website.0

+1 for kindle app (devout & happy Kindle user) AND
+1 for aldiko on android - between the two there won't be many ebooks that escape you!
Then there's calibre (free software that converts ebooks from one sort to another) calibre-ebook.com/ !0 -
Google Play Books is the best, in my opinion.
Plenty of free books on there, plus you can upload up to 1000 of your own epubs.I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.
