Interesting, i was told quite bluntly completely the opposite that no CHAPS option would be available due to the way the product is set up, would be nice to see that down in black and white?

Derbyshire Building Society 6.45% fixed rate bond issue 146

Looks like the Derbyshire has filled the coffers and withdrawn this issue. The 1 year FRB on the website wef 22 June is Issue 148 @ 6.1%.

Their site is a bit awkward to say the least and the info sparse, but I have taken the following from this link , (page 6), same as my link in post #9, although I don't know why they call it "an emergency facility"

and can arrange for withdrawals to be made by bank telegraphic transfer (CHAPS) to a UK bank on payment of a fee

nationwide are obviously confident that they can launch 1 year fixed bonds dressed up  as a special deal for its current account holders, at a significantly lower rate than is offered by various plcs

Halifax look like they are on the ball

I just put some money (£30k) into their 3 month Web Saver 2 weeks ago - so i've been watching the rates to see whether it moved up - and whether i'd got a good deal.

They are changing each week as it stands - and going upwards - so i've lost out on my "fix" as it stands - but thats the game you play.

The thing with the Halifax Web Saver range is there are 8 different terms available. As soon as I come out of this 3 month one - I can bpounce into another term - no need to worry about the BACS / CHAPS cheque in the post palava.
    Hoping to retire soon

I think Nationwide often says it doesn't want to be the best, simply to be above average in the wider marketplace. Complacent, yes - arrogant, possibly - but they've got so many customers (over 11 million - that's 6 million new customers alone since they introduced signaways) they really don't need to be competing too hard at the moment do they? That's a successful brand by anyone's standard and I'd love to know which banks etc these new customers moved across from and which Nationwide product or products they have been taking out (maybe a lot of RBS/Barclays types?)

yeah, i don't dispute that at all. you are correct, which is why i would prefer to reinvest my monies into one of their bonds; trouble is they really are uncompetitive compared to, say, Halifax. anyway, my bond expires in October. god knows what will happen to rates by then, especially given that sterling has now hit $2.00 :)
