My cat Alf was diagnosed by the vet yesterday as having feline asthma. This was after a day of coughing/wheezing and laboured breathing.
He was given antibiotics as a "just in case" and steroid injection. Alf perked up a bit yesterday afternoon but today still has laboured breathing and is very lethargic. Is eating, drinking peeing and pooing. Spoke to vet who says would expect this presentation for a few days.
Does anyone on here have any experience of feline asthma and how long does it take a cat to recover to near normal after an episode ?
Thankyou

no experience with asthma, but it's usual for antibiotics to take a few days to kick in. When Alf does cheer up, I read that you should finish the course of antibiotics, not just stop them, as this really kills off all the bugs - stopping halfway encourages them to become antibiotic resistant.0

My cat Delilah 10 years has it. She has to take 1ml steroid each day, she still has a bit of a wheeze. Goes every six months to get checked out and a vitamin injection and then its repeat prescriptions. The heavy coughing has stopped. She has been on the steroids for about 3 years plus now.
If its not proper asthma then the antibiotics should work, which means just a chest infection. The vet might decide to xray the lungs or not.0
