Ebay, New Member, Bank Transfer

I have used ebay for years but have never been asked to accept a bank transfer.

At the minute I have a phone on a buy it now (not widely expensive, around £80), and a member with one feedback (positive, but due to new ebay rules I can't see what for) wants to buy it.

She has sent a few messages about how this is perfect for her Mum, and as she is young she can't afford to buy a really dear model so this one would be great for her.

She is waiting on funds to clear into her Paypal and wants me to accept a bank transfer. I have no problems doing this as I understand the details I gave her are the same as is printed on cheques, but I don't fully understand them.

Can she reverse the payment, and what happens if she decides she doesn't want the phone for some reason and returns it. Do I have to accept the return. The phone is brand new.
;)I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY;)

Bank transfers for sellers are usually good news. No, they cannot be reversed (I assume your buyer is in the UK). You dont have to accept the return if you dont want to and, although the buyer may be able to raise a case, ebay cant do anything to make you accept the return and refund. No paypal fees neither. In short, you are in control.
  • Too much info always sounds dodgy to me. Plus why do they need funds to clear in Paypal? if they're paying it from their bank account why can't they just link Paypal to their bank and pay it?

Probably find it's not their bank account and the phone is winging its way to Nigeria when the bank reclaim the money.

    Maybe ask for cash?
    Sent recorded delivery.
I do this when I know it is something dodgy or someone from abroad wants to buy something. I say I only accept pound sterling cash as then I know I won't get scammed.
Funny, they don't take me up on that option.

    This is what I hoped...

    This is what I feared.

Dont the banks cover fraud in a straight bank to bank transfer? Any payment of this type could be claimed as fraudulent, with a loss of confidence in bank to bank transfers. I know that fraudulent foreign cheques can be reclaimed weeks later but cheques are different of course.
  • Okay, so she has sent the payment, but hasn't actually bought the phone yet...lol.

I am just going to cancel the listing on ebay. I know I shouldn't do this, but so pleased to have saved on their FFV...
