alloy wheels and car insurance

bit of a random question this one

I know if you put alloy wheels on a car it can make quite a difference to your insurance premium. I was just wondering what the situation would be if I put the exact alloys that are on the options list for a car? - ie it's like you just got the wheels upgraded when you bought it new.

Anyone know the answer. Or is it just going to be to ask the insurance company?

thanks in advance

I'd ask the insurance company as this seems to depend very much on the car in question. One some it doesn't seem to make any difference to the premium (especially if the alloys were standard fitment) while on others, it makes a massive difference as they make the car more desirable to scrotes or somesuch.

your policy would still be loaded as its an option and not factory standard... when you give your reg number they now what is standard on a make and model and will ask you any modifications or extras..

    alloys is an extra....

if you were not to tell them and you submitted a claim the insurance company would backdate the extra cost from inception before dealing with the claim
