Are there any good sound Banks ? I have been with RBS for 40 years and apart from a few faux pas on their part it has not been too bad, however this latest revelation of them forcing businesses into insolvency to maximise their benefit just about does it for me

The pundits on the forums were saying until recently that the Co-Operative bank were the best one out there.

Well if you are talking about banks why stop there? How many shops have closed in your town because of the new Tesco extra on the outskirts?
How many shops have shut because you shop with Amazon now and they don't pay any tax?
This thread could go on and on.
At the end of the day if you are happy with your current account with the why change UNLESS there is something better for YOU somewhere else.
Better the devil you know?0 -

from the frying pan into the fire........Coop is the bank that suddenly, after about 4 years of not noticing a thing, suddenly discovered a £1.5bn black hole in their finances that seems to have been there since 2009. Pick up a paper, any paper, and you are bound to find more disturbing news about the Coop.anotherbaldrick wrote: »The pundits on the forums were saying until recently that the Co-Operative bank were the best one out there.

If you want to leave RBS because you don't agree with their business practices, fair enough (though why did you not leave when they almost bankrupted the country?). Just don't expect they would give two hoots about losing the occasional retail customer.0 -
You could check on http://!!!!!!.uk/ where they have interesting criteria you can adjust to suit your preferences0

Not my words.why did you not leave when they almost bankrupted the country?
But a very good question.0 -
If the ethics of a bank concern you then I suppose you're best off with a mutual, like Nationwide, Coventry Building Society, Norwich & Peterborough or Cumbria (if you live in their area). This is a system account and does not represent a real person. If you start considering ethics then you may struggle to find a bank you are happy with.
If you are happy with RBS then stick with them but personally I would prefer to use a bank that pays decent interest on current accounts and has more reasonable charges.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
Thanks. The wife has a hokey cokey branch based account with Nationwide and I think you have resolved my mind on changing my accounts to them.I have been with Nationwide for about the same time as you, I cannot fault :beer:You scullion!
