Council tax success stories in Scotland?

My neighbour is appealing as she is the same house as me but in C and we are in B - the houses round about are a mixture of B and C - the council told her that could well change the ones in the lower band and claim back the money owed!!
It is South Lanarkshire Council - anyone know if they can do this if we have not been in touch with them?No Longer addicted to Boots! - Well not today anyway!! :blushing:

Have you had any luck with your rebanding
I am in Ayrshire moved into a new property in 2001 paying £82,995 i am in the banding £80K to £106K its not rocket science to work out that in 1991 my house would be below £80k but the valuation office cannot see that, the have ignored all the evidence which i have supplied and after fighting for 1 year they have basically said go away we are not spending any more time looking at this, they are right i am wrong and i am outwith the 6 months and therefore have no legal rights.
Any idea where i take this now?0

Hi, I'm going to ask a Q that's probably been asked to death but be patient
I bought my house in Sept 2002 for £37050, which means in 1991 it would have been worth approx £23,198. This means it should have been band A, but we are paying band B, as are all of our neighbours. Is there any way to see they were given the wrong banding in 1991, or if this B band has been rebanded since then?
Assuming it has always been 'wrong' then do I just have to grin & bear it?
editing to say I live in N Lanarkshire, hence posting on this thread 0 0

Just to update, I filled out the online form and sent it in a week or so ago.
I had a message on my ans machine when I got home today from the Assessors office saying they want to come out to value the property.
For some reason, I am feeling a bit nervous about this now!0

            Hello
I've just signed up to this site and have just printed out my first letter to my credit card company asking for a statement of charges, would never have had the confidence to do that without reading the amazing stories on this site!
I've just signed up to this site and have just printed out my first letter to my credit card company asking for a statement of charges, would never have had the confidence to do that without reading the amazing stories on this site!
I'm posting here as I live in Glasgow and have just followed a link to the council tax/SAA banding site. I live in one of the top floor flats of a six-flat block (3 floors with 2 flats each, ex-HA though we bought our flat from someone who'd bought from the HA rather than directly), the top floor flats are banded C, the others are B and the adjoining two-story house next door is D. I'm puzzled as to why the top floor flats are higher than the middle floor ones, I can understand the ground floor ones being lower as they're on the steet but they're the same as the middle ones? We bought the flat in summer 2003 for just over £60k, o/o just under £50k, and the area's improved an awful lot since we bought it, but still... tbh I'm more curious than hoping for a refund, don't really want to draw attention to how much better the area is even since we moved in
Thank you for any responses, and apologies if this seems like a bit of a random post! There's so much on this site that's so interesting, I guess this just happened to be the thread that inspired me to first post!0

Welcome to Money Saving Experts, Aliss. :grouphug:
You don't need to apologies. People on these boards are very helpful and they will be happy to help if they can. There is a very long thread about council tax band in Cutting Tax forum.
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=278090
it is 122 pages long at the moment but I hope it will answer some of your question.
I am not an expert on council tax matters but some one with more knowledge will guide you in right direction. Good luck.0

Just an update from me - no further forward in getting my band adjusted and had taken a break from chasing my tail over it for the past year.
Was mainly frustrated as following my preparation for the tribunal hearing, which was a waste of time given the 6 month rule, I discovered that 40 houses on my street with an extra bedroom and bathroom were banded below my house.
Anyway, am back to be a pain for them again and have contacted my local MSP to find out who I should be contacting in that direction to raise my concerns over this. The reason I have asked for guidance on who to contact is because it clearly states when trying to contact them that they dont deal with council tax issues - I would imagine because the whole set-up is a bit of a mess.
Am thinking at this stage that the time that various people have spent on this to date whilst only serving to frustrate and highlight a poor set-up probably financially out-strips the refund I am entitled to!! Not really surprised at that to be honest though!
Will let you all know the reply.0
