Council tax success stories in Scotland?

Have just received an offer from Glasgow City Council to change from band c to band b but no refund due.
Placed my appeal in January.0 -
I got a reduction from F to E for my daughter, but that was within 6 months of purchase (west end of Glasgow)0

I live in Dunfermline and my house was automatically (i didn't even have to ask) re-banded lower and i received a cheque about a week later. :T0

I think the whole council tax racket in Scotland is so unfair I am on band A and still pay more than people in central London and they think they are paying too much?!!
please do not pick on me for my grammar,I left school at fifteen and worked in the building trade for 55years ,

Every time I've looked into rebanding it turns out that most of the other flats around us are in higher bands (suppose there are some perks to being on the top floor!).Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

i've just found this site and could do with a bit of help.
i'm in a band c property and other similar houses in my street are also band c. i'm still scouring neighbouring streets but having difficulty working out if the band B houses have the same amount of rooms.
according to the nationwide houseprice indicator the house would have been just over 24000 in 1991, which would make it a band A!! but that canny be right.
i'd be grateful for advice on websites giving property prices in glasgow for this time, or any advice on how others went about challenging glasgow city council.
it would be great to get some money back.0 -
Have you tried the SAA website in Martin's article here...

aye thanks, but all the houses in greenfield my size seem to be band c, which does seem unfair as i'm sure they would have been in a lower price banding in 1991.
i've been trawling the internet trying to find evidence of house prices in my area for 1991, to put up a decent arguement, i havent had any luck so far, but i'll keep trying.0 -
I have been looking into this as well, but am getting confused with this 6-month rule.
I have been in my house for almost 5 years and have only now discovered that the only other house in the street which is exactly the same and on the same floor (2 closes along) is a Band C, whereas I am a Band D. From reading the 'rules' it seems I am too late to ask for a rebanding...... or am I being thick or misreading it?
albalass - when I checked 1991 prices mine was the almost the same as yours, I should be Band A, or possibly B.

but they made the mistake though. i think it's easier if you've moved within the last 6 months.......they wouldn't have to pay you back the money you've been overcharged!!
i'd phone them, you've got nothing to loose. even if it means the change is from this year forward your laughing.
i've found a wee row of 4 houses next to me with 3 bedrooms, which are band B. i'm dying to phone the local assessor but i don't want these four people to have theirs yanked up. the rest of the area including me are all band C.0
