Dont let the battery die that's the worse possible method for battery life .10% -15% should be the bottom line for a recharge .

Charge up and use up :) my laptop has a "battery care" setting which stops it charging once the battery reaches 80%. When I need to take the laptop out and about without access to a socket then I charge it to 100% obviously but when I'm just at home 80% does me fine and I don't let it fall below 10%

I've been using one laptop or other in a bureaux in the lounge so it's handy but not on show.

I used to remove the batteries from such laptops and periodically charge them. More recently I've just left them in with the charger on except if I was going to be away from home a while.

I usually keep a laptop 3 years or so before upgrading and they have always still had usable batteries with either method. What you should avoid is letting the battery drain down fully - if in use the laptop will shut down warning you but if it isn't used ot the battery is just left out in a discharged state you could hit the problem above which may ruin it.
  • Apple have a great guide for this. It applies to all laptops with a lithium-based battery.

  • If you only use it at home, run it with charged battery removed.
