Postage (rip off) ?

Looking to buy the new Splinter Cell game so thought I would have a look on eBay. Saw it for BIN £20 - cheap I thought. Then saw the postage price - £5 for 1st class recorded! This is to send a game in a dvd box, so will cost no more than £1.50 postage max. I emailed the company asking them why it was so expensive...this was the response....
Hi,
Our P&P charge includes the following:
Postage Price,
Postal insurance,
Packing costs (including jiffy bag, labels, tape, someone to pack the item)
Petrol costs to take the item physically to the post office.
Also, you'll notice we're still one of the cheapest on eBay for the total selling price of this game.
We're also one of the very few selling this game from stock and shipping from within the UK.
Worth the £5 I'd say.
I hope this answer your question and thanks for the email
Isn't this just one big excuse for getting out of saying "yes we do overprice our P&P to cover eBay and Paypal fees, and it also allows us to put our BIN price down, thus seeming cheaper, and paying less eBay fees".
Anyways, I wont be buying from them!

It's all swings and roundabouts I suppose! I wouldn't buy from them either at that postage price..nice of them to reply courteously though!0

I always check P&P and some are high but if total cost is still cheaper then others doesn't bother me as much.2p off is still 2p off!0

I must congratulate them in giving a nice polite response. Sometimes I have like the other Op added up the final total and if it has been cheaper this way just boughtit. But after my last unsavoury experience I have came to the conclusion that if someone is going to con you on the postage then they might not be at all trustworthy. If someone is going to tryto rip me off on the postage is that were it stops, or does it continue to the item and service ? So now, no I dont buy from them.0

Yep I was impressed with the response too, they could have told me to go and do one if I didnt like the postage cost! And if the overall price is the cheapest, I usually go for that too. But it just seems mad, £5 to post a CD. Anyways, found the game for £18 off the net, so it beat their price with or without postage costs lolThe main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing:)0

I was looking at compactflash cards on ebay the other day - there are several for 99p - but all have £13.50 postage 1st class uk!
I think I'll pass.....0 -
What you have to remember is just weigh up the overall cost, i know its annoying and people often moan but just think of it as an overall price your paying for what you want, it may still be cheaper than people charging a quid for postage but 30 quid for the item.0

How many more times are we going to have the 'Postage Rip-off' thread started; at the moment seems to be at least once a week.
It always goes the same way, and guess what ...at the end no-one is any happier!!
Perhaps we should make it a sticky and then people wouldn't have to type the same thing everytime it crops up.;)0 -
i don't mind paying extra postage costs, as long as they are stated in advance. what really drives me insane is when a seller charges for 1st class and then send the package parcel rate. i mind less getting ripped-off if i'm aware of the overcharge at the time of purchase.0

it seems there will always be 'rip offs' on ebay or what buyers deem to be rip offs. as this is an ebay boardthere will always be threads about it. i suppose if we could only post about each subject once there wouldnt be many threads lol i know what you mean though!!! xxxx0
