My cats lost her voice :-(

My 5 year old, half indoor, half outdoor cat seems to have lost her voice
I've noticed in the last few days that her mew has been raspy but now when she opens her mouth, there's nothing at all
She's normally very vocal indeed
She's otherwise completely fine in herself. She's eating normally, both wet and dry food, and still as nutty as she ever was.
I don't want to take her to the vet unless I absolutely have to, as she finds it very stressful and I'd rather not put her through the stress of it if I can.
This is the only thing that's not right about her, and I think it's probably stressing me more than it is her lol
Does anyone have any experience of this?

One of ours lost her voice - we took her to the vets, he gave her an injection and it came back literally within minutes!
If she is otherwise fine I would be inclined to leave it a couple of days and see how she is. If it doesn't come back, maybe think about taking her to the vets then.0 -
Mine loses her voice sometimes, I just enjoy the peace as it soon comes back, i'm sure cats can get bugs like we can (colds etc but not cat flu) that could cause things like this so as long as she's healthy & ok in herself i'd wait & see for a few days0

It could be an upper respiratory tract infection? I would get her checked out at the vet to be on the safe sideKavanne
Nuns! Nuns! Reverse!

If her voice doesn't return within the next few days, you must take her to the vet.
However 'stressful' it is, (or the fact that it's going to cost you; ) you must take her, as it could be a serious condition she has.
I hope it's just a bad throat, but you must take her to the vet.0 -
As long as she seems fine in herself you could probably wait a bit, although I wouldn't leave it too long. My cat 'lost' his voice and we popped him off to the vet after a couple of days.....on the bus ride there, he was doing an aeroplane impression with some really loud meows :rotfl:. Not sure what it was, but the vet gave him a shot and it soon came back for good. I'd have called him an outright faker on the bus, but I know that they will vocalise when stressed no matter how much it pains them.0

Thank you folks.
She's got until Wednesday, or she's off to the vet.
It's not a case of the money. It's not wanting to put her through unnecessary trauma.
I've had a couple of croaks out of her today, which is more than I had yesterdayI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Health & Beauty, Greenfingered Moneysaving and How Much Have You Saved boards.
