Laparoscopy (not looking for medical advice)

Hi all,

Need some advice really.
i am scheduled to have a laparoscopy on Tuesday.

My DH has recently found a new contract after 8 months of job searching so do not want to risk the job by taking too many days off.

So he took 2 days off on Tuesday and Wednesday only.
He also works away so will leave on Thursday morning and I will be by myself at home. So wondering if anyone who went through this procedure how manageable it will for me to be alone for 2 days ?

He will be back on Friday evening. I am not from UK so do not have any family here who can help and very few friends who have there own responsibilities and issues.

You will be fine :) I've had three and yes it's painful but make sure you have everything you need in reaching distance, so you don't have to stretch too much. Keep the heating on throughout the day so you are not cold and tense. Maybe make up some easy meals so you can microwave them.

Is it just you, no children to look after? If yes, you'll be fine, you'll be a bit sore, sleepy and windy, just make sure you have some easy food in because you won't want to be cooking, fill the fridge with you fave grabable treats and relax for a few days.

You should be fine to look after yourself but I went back to work after 5 days (docs said I could after 3) and on the 6th day I was very emotional and snappy and ended up in floods of tears at work (to the extent that the manager tried to send me home - I refused to go.

My mum later told me when I had a GA as a child I did the same thing about a week after - however had I just been at home I'd have been fine within 48 hours (by then I felt ok just a little tired) didn't take any pain killers the next day but didn't do much - so went back to work, and realised actually I couldn't drive more than 30 minutes without being in pain, getting the 20 minutes to work and being sent another 30 minutes away on arrival especially as I hadn't brought pain relief as had been fine the day before caused the break down - had I been potching around the house with paracetamol to hand I'd have been fine
  • Thanks for the replies all.

Yeah it's just me no kids that's the reason I am going through the procedure as we started investigating the reasons I could not get pregnant after 2 years of trying.

They found an endo cyst and operating now. Also my ovarian reserve is not good it seems so getting an IVF referral very soon.

I took two weeks off work just to be safe because going to work for me is 2 hrs of journey each way.

I think that sounds fine. I definitely needed someone with me for the first couple of days because I felt really rough and was in quite a lot of pain. But, after that I could have managed on my own.

    Have sent you a PM
  • I expected to feel awful for ages (I'm a real wuss when it comes to being poorly) but DH had to work the day after the op and I was fine, a bit sore but well able to move around, do light housework, make lunch and I think, had I not wanted to sit around, watching TV and generally being pathetic, I could have done more (like walk to the shop, not go to the gym or anything!)

Exactly the same here. 1st class wuss, tired, a bit sore in places, generally a little comfortable due to wind.......but was fine. Good luck.
