I'm wanting to get this or something similar so my son can play his apps etc on his tv. He has sky muliroom( free btw) so won't really need it to watch tv through.just thought he would like his games on a big screen.. Is Apple TV my only option or is there something else I could use.TIA
 Am thinking of a new one:beer:

I don't know if those boxes that turn your tv into a smart TV would do the same.0

That's what I'm not too sure about.. Some of the things I looked at are wired and I need wireless.. Very confusing.. I'm presuming apple will be an easy set up. Am thinking of a new one:beer:0

What games does he want to watch on the big screen? iPad or phone ones? Using Airplay?0

This works in this context, for airplaying apps or mirroring the screen for games, but I have found when trying it with mine (3 yr old Apple TV, original iPad mini) there is a slight lag between my movement and the result on screen, which when playing Real Racing 3 or Fifa on the iPad means you are late in turning or kicking the ball etc.
It's brilliant for youtube etc, has a youtube app built in, or you can airplay a youtube vid that you have loaded up on phone or ipad.
The Apple TV for me though has now come into it's own with my newly purchased iMac. The iMac is always on, so i can stream all my media to my main TV anytime i want it...0 -
Thanks.. He has ipad 3He has a xbox 360 that probably does loads of other stuff and he only uses it to play fifa.. He loves his apps though.. I'm struggling with present ideas so thats why I considered the Apple TV lol:beer: Am thinking of a new one:beer:0

I'd recommend them. You can get a refurb direct from Apple for £75 which I think is great value. My experience of refurb's from Apple are that they just come in a non retail box but the device will look new.0

AppleTV is the ideal way to get the picture from an iPad onto a big TV, and plenty more too. There area exceptions to what will work though, Sky Go being the main one I can think of.0

He's got multiroom so that's ok.. Think I will get one(refurb from Apple.. Got ipad from there too) if he doesn't use it I will lol! Am thinking of a new one:beer:0

I think the £10-£20 boxes (I think) that turn your TV into a Smart TV are better value.0
