Aqua Card - Abroad

I have a £2k limit with Aqua, which I'm hoping to use when I'm abroad next month.

Has anyone used their card abroad and if so, was it declined at all?

I've found my card often gets declined in the UK for fraud checks, so am thinking I've got no chance abroad, it'll get flagged every time?

:(

Edit - Apologies for putting this into the current account section. Please move to credit cards >>>

Might be less chance if you tell them in advance.

I sent them a secure message about 2 weeks ago and have heard nothing. Will call them before I go and let them know. :)

Yes, it can be declined and you can never rely on one card.

As you say, no need to go abroad to get your card declined. My Aqua card was declined in this country when I used it online at a well known high street retailer (despite the account being in good order and plenty of available credit on it)

Seems they declined it for 'security reasons'. I gave 'em what for and they said if the retailer tries again, it would now go through. I called the retailer, and yes, it did go through no problems on the second attempt.

Never had such embarrassment before with any other card.

I can't see you attempting to use the card abroad will inprove the security alert trigger, can you?

Aqua operate fraud prevention which is usually invoked when buying something where the amount spent is larger than usual where the PIN is not required like on a web site. I have not had any problems with my card at all: Terminals practically beg me to use it. Advise you phone them before you authorise the payment.

I looked through my documentation and you have to phone them before going abroad and using the card. I'm guessing that would apply to all foreign currency transactions but I don't know that for sure.

I used my Aqua card for an online purchase in a foreign currency without any problems, and I never contacted Aqua beforehand.

It was about 3 months later when I tried to use the card at a well known & respected UK high street retailer's online store that the transaction (which was in GBP as you would expect) was declined at the first attempt.

The card had been used in every month between those occassions, and the bill paid IN FULL and on time every month.
