What I would do is get myself on the electoral roll, get a student credit card with your current bank (for easy acceptance, although you may wish to consider the Luma card for cashback) and get an overdraft on your student account even though you may not use it. That way you'll have a few credit products shown on your credit report managed correctly and will put you in a good place to get other forms of credit in future that you will actually need!

I'm now 21 and don't usually have trouble getting fairly good credit products. That is because the first thing I did when I was 18 was get a sub prime credit card, then a SIM only phone contract to 'prove' myself.

Will post again in a few months to show off my shiny new credit score (hoping to hit 500 soon :))
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you don't have a single shiny credit score. You have lots of invisible credit scores all over the place.

Every time you apply for credit, the lender will calculate a brand new score just for you. Not only that, they will not tell you what that score was. They will just say Yes or No.

So if you get told you have a shiny credit score of 999, you know this is BS because real credit scores are secret. And it is worse if you paid your hard earned cash for your shiny score.
