hole in my nexus 7 home screen

After loading up the new android version 4.4 I was fiddling about with the icons on my main home screen. No particular reason, just moving them around. However at one point I had 2 items sort of linked together (layered?) Not sure if this is a fault or feature. Anyway cleared away one of the items which left 1 sort of contained within a black circle (a black hole).
But the problem is it's stuck there, even when I swipe to a different home screen.
In other words it looks like it's attached to the glass!!!
Can any one help get rid of it?

Have you tried turning it off and restarting it?0

I don't really recognise your description but...
If you drag one icon over another they will merge into a folder and that's what it sounds like you did. If you press on the merged icon it should open up showing the content and you can drag each icon out and back onto the screen. When you pull out the last but one then both will revert to their original icons.
There is a dock row at the bottom and you may have dragged a folder onto that. By default you get the google apps in a folder on the dock row.0 -
Thought I'd better answer my own question, as I have googled elsewhere for a solution. In case someone has same problem.
After a lifetime of windows rebooting I thought android was more stable!
But yes that was the solution. A reboot. Can't explain how it happened though.0 -
Apologies, I didn't see your comments until I had reposted. You are both right. I obviously had grouped 2 icons together. But ungrouping didn't seem to work. Anyway rebooting fixed it.
Will try a controlled test now that I know how to fix it.
Thanks both.0 -
Works beautifully, didn't know you could do that! Thanks again.0
