A mixture of moan and praise here.
I bought a pair of Clarks shoes as I have always found thema good fit (not a fancy style just astandard pair of average looking shoes for work). A couple of days later when I was out in light rain I felt myright foot getting damp. Now I haveto be clear the rain was not heavy I was not walking through puddles and theshoes look just like a normal pair you would ware to an office
I took them back to be told that the shoe is not guaranteedto be waterproof. I was stunned atthis response. They sell shoes inScotland in winter which might not stop your feet getting wet. I was told to buy some water repellent andsee if that solves the problem.
Brought the spray and guess what…. it still leaked. Took the shoes back again and his time Igot an exchange and a bit more advice this time on what shoe to buy.
If you are reading this Clarks please make sure yoursales staff tell the customer that they style of shoe they are buying may notbe watering and they should purchase some water replant.

I have ever assumed shoes were waterproof unless they were particularly sold as such.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. There are two distinct meanings for 'waterproof' when it comes to shoes.
There's the normal meaning which applies to specialist footwear such as wellies, which are impervious to water.
Then there is 'waterproof' in the sense that they are proof against the direct, immediate, ingress of water but will gradually become soaked and allow water to permeate. These are 'everyday' shoes that you expect to be able to use on wet streets and for short periods in the rain without your feet getting wet.
I read the OP as expecting the second type of 'waterproof' and every pair of Clarks leather shoes I've owned (which is a lot) have, indeed, been waterproof in this way.
What you haven't told us, OP, is what material the shoes were made of nor whether the ingress was from the top, the sole, or the join.
However, the fact that only one foot got wet would seem to imply that that shoe was not performing to the same standard as its pair and hence that there was probably some fault with it.There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
There is only one meaning of waterproof. The second explanation hat AS gave is for water resistance. Two different things when describing shoes.
