I am an OAP and I prefer my desktop, mainly because it has a 24 inch monitor connected to it. Hoping for a bigger one in 32 days.
I tried a laptop but it was just too small, I had to buy a separate keyboard and mouse and connect it to my monitor.
Too much hassle so I went back to my desktop which I upgraded with more memory and a better video card when I installed Windows 8.
You really can't do that with a laptop, which is sitting in the room somewhere.
I might give it to one of the grandkids for Christmas.
I do of course live in a 3 bed house with only my wife, so I have a separate room for my computer.Getting forgetful, if you think I've asked this before I probably have. :rotfl:0 -
It's seven years old and XP is due for the knackers yard in April.
It's not out of the question, but I wouldn't recommend it either.
Set her PC up with perhaps a bigger monitor and a wireless keyboard.
Why can she only use it a couple of time per week?0 -
It was a good laptop in 2006. But 2006 was a long time ago in laptop years. It also only has a 12" screen which some may find difficult to see.0

I too am an OAP, but much prefer my laptop. I can use it wherever I like, especially sitting in a comfy armchair ( using a small folding table to prevent over heating) and the 17" screen is easier to read than the more usual smaller ones.0

I am in my 60s and I had a 17.3 inch laptop that I loved but it needed to be plugged in most of the time, very short battery life. also heavy but the big screen made it worthwhile, I got rid of my desktop computer. I have a netbook which I find way too small and hard to type but it's ok now I have nothing else after a burglary :-( . What I miss the most is my Ipad. I don't know why you think Nan wouldn't get on with a touchscreen but I picked it up so much quicker than the trackpad thing and my friend had a go and although a total novice he thought it was easy on the Ipad. I never use a mouse- hate them0

Nope ten inch wifi tablet someone needs to show her one as the touch screen is simple even for advanced ages . Use it from the comfort of her armchair or in bed .0
