Had a quick search and this did not appear.
Please sign the petition to DEFRA to prevent 2 pet cows being slaughtered because they don't have the passports to allow them to be transferred to Hillside animal sanctuary from Stepney City farm.

taken from the paper report. The pair can not be moved to another site as they don’t have passports, which, since the foot and mouth crisis, all cattle require if they are to be transported.
My question is, why do these cattle do not have the right paperwork in the first place?
right just found something else and it seems the farm has known since 2009 that the cattle need the correct paper work, so why have they not applied for it? seems to me there is only half a story here, does any one have the full information?Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100/100miles

AFAIK, cattle travel docs cannot be applied for retrospectively which is why the petition has been started.
TBH (and I know that this opinion won't be popular!) the cattle have a poor quality of life now at Stepney due to the loss of grazing but I would think long and hard if it will improve at Hillside - they appear to have far too many animals for the space and funds they have available. Hillside have, on more than one occasion had to set up emergency appeals for food when they are only days/weeks away from running out. That is not good stock management by any standards and I would fear that the cattle would be going from frying pan to fire if they went there.
PTS, while sad for the handlers is not always a bad thing for the animals.0 -

Sadly, Lloyd and Leila have been destroyed.
Full story here which also covers why the paperwork had not been applied for:

Are you actually saying that the animals at Hillside are not well looked after?DONT BREED OR BUY WHILE HOMELESS ANIMALS DIE. GET YOUR ANIMALS NEUTERED TO SAVE LIVES.0 -
I support Hillside and have visited their sanctuary in Norfolk.A better place for animals i cannot imagine. They are all cared for very well, from shire horses down to humble chickens. When you know of some of the awful conditions these poor creatures have had to endure ,mainly for the meat trade, you would not think twice about giving them the chance of a better life there.
Hillside fought very hard for these two gentle animals and they are gutted at what has happened. The only reason they have to appeal for emergency food etc is because they never turn away an animal in need. They are purchasing extra land and buildings to rescue even more so i don't think they are very short of funds!0 -

I didn't say that!
I used to donate regularly to Hillside until a few years ago when I kept getting sent 'emergency appeals' that were a tad hysterical in tone - all about how they only had 2 weeks food left and if they didn't get immediate donations their animals would starve. Maybe that was somebodies idea of marketing strategy at the time but it concerned me that they were running so close to the edge with a requirement as basic as food for their livestock while still taking on more animals. I'll admit that I am wary in these circumstances as I have personally seen more than one rescue's animals need to be rescued as the original well intentioned person got in over their head and it all headed south with them not being able to afford basic care let alone proper vet care because they took on too much.At the time Hillside was giving me the same vibe especially since they don't rehome any of their animals.I support Hillside and have visited their sanctuary in Norfolk.A better place for animals i cannot imagine. They are all cared for very well, from shire horses down to humble chickens. When you know of some of the awful conditions these poor creatures have had to endure ,mainly for the meat trade, you would not think twice about giving them the chance of a better life there.

That is really good news - I never doubted their good intentions but as I said above, I did doubt their financial abilities. There are times, like these when I love to be proved wrong!0 -
In times like these where charity donations have decreased the charities have to sadly make as strong a case as possible to get the help they need.I am sure they are all, in way or another,a little bit guilty of slight exaggeration as to how much they need our money. And who can blame them?
I donate when i can ,where i see the most need at that time, and feel that their current campaign is a good one.Hillside do a lot of covert filming and investigating dire conditions in the factory farming industry.By doing that, hopefully there won't be so many animals needing rescuing from these awful situations.
It is very sad that Stepney farm rushed the decision to kill the cows. There was however only a slim chance that Defra would agree to let them be moved. But it didn't stop Hillside go all out in trying to get them to their sanctuary.0 -
I support Hillside too and often visit their frettenham sanctuary. Its a huge farm and the animals look very happy. The animals there are just so lucky considering what their lives could be.0

For xmas i have got my sister to buy me bales of hay in lieu of a pressie,oh and a diary from them.In the past she adopted the alpacas 2 years running. She also adopts the goats for our mum(as she used to keep them) and a dog for my hubby for his birthday.
As a present for a friend I have adopted Doris the duck, bought bales of hay,a calendar and other bits from there, as well as all my xmas cards.
The cards are a good way to spread the word about what they do.When we visited there we went into their charity shop and bought the most wonderful painting someone had donated.I had been looking for years for the right one. There are lots of ways to help them and they really do deserve and need the funds.
There are over 4 thousand comments on their facebook page about the decision to kill the cows.Just shows the strength of feeling.0
