Work contracts

:mad:Hi I'm hoping someone could help me.
Im 21 years old and work in a dead end job in retail. My shop went into administration earlier this year then got bought out by another retail company.
I have only signed a contract for the company I was first in. Now this new store is telling me I've got to pay for my uniform. I used to get it free. Surely They can't tell me what I've got to spend my wages on, they're telling me to buy uniform if I haven't signed a contract with them I don't have to right?
Who's in the right me or them?

Sorry to hear that you're being pressed into paying for something that used to be free. I've had this happen at several companies, and don't think there is much you can do about it, unless doing so would take you below the minimum wage.
How long have you been working there? If you started after April 2012 you have very little protection and they can give you notice easily if you're seen as a trouble maker. The fact that your company was taken over doesn't alter your length of service, which runs from when you joined the original company.
I'm not an expert, but one may be along soon.0
