Apparently the extra time is being taken to ensure that (a) the DWP and it's agents are gathering every bit of useful evidence from all quarters and (b) making sure that whatever the decision is it is fully consistent with all of the evidence obtained.
Pity that the ESA debacle wasn't carried out with as much vigour and attention!
But then no one actually believed at the time that ATOS/DWP were making such dramatic errors of judgement despite the evidence being there for all to see.
I once had a refusal for a benefit (not ESA/DLA) when the only evidence used was a signed (by me) verbal statement given during an ATOS grilling, a report (that ATOS requested) from a consultant psychiatrist who literally said that what I had said was the complete truth and an opinion from ATOS that said that there was nothing wrong with me! Guess who the DWP preferred to believe? Funny really, not knowing I could appeal I left it for a few years before deciding to resurrect the claim and pointed out the inaccuracies of the original claim - the DWP agreed with me and backdated the award for those few years but refused to repay the missing years because I did not appeal at the correct time.0
