John Lewis...appalling

I have to agree with OP. The customer service at JL has gone downhill, and is well below that of some of their competitors.
I had a hell of a time when I ordered a fridge freezer from their website that was listed as being in stock, only to be told 2 weeks later that it would take another 2 months for delivery as it was out of stock.
Only when I complained on their Facebook page did I get any action (in the form of a refund and apology).
Personally, I would shop elsewhere.
I certainly will in future0 -

Have to agree with this.
Our experience has certainly put us off.
We made it quite clear to the staff that the laptop had tripped our electric and we thought it was dangerous. We were amazed when they plugged it in regardless. Needless to say the guy got an electric shock.
On speaking with them on the phone later they acted like it was somehow our fault that he had to go to hospital to get checked out!0 -

I cannotbelieve that a laptop caused someone to get an electric shock unless the mains cable was physically damaged. There is no power caberble of giving a shock on the laptop side of the tranformer.0 -

I know it's taken a month for you to research your reply, but you're still wrong.
A small short in the power cable is sounds the most likely scenario in the quoted case, which is entirely possible without visible physical damage. A fault on the transformer is also possible. A capacitor could also give a shock on the 12v side of the power supply, dependent on the current.0 -
I worked for John Lewis for around twenty four years and towards the end of that time I saw the after sales service go down tha pan.
I can remember when you could talk to someone on the shop floor regarding a fault or problem, but not now.
Like I have always said its alright JL boasting about 2 years warranty but very often they do NOT honour it, or make it very awkward.
So that extended free warranty is worthless.0 -

I've corrected it for you.
All it needs is for a short circuit in the power transformer to cause the output voltage to be far higher than it should be.
I work on aircraft electrical systems and I've lost count of the number of times I've been given an electrical shock when all of the books and wiring diagrams show that it couldn't happen.
They are all correct in that it couldn't happen if the systems and wiring were operating as they should have been, but this isn't always the case.0
