If you had post, some of which seems like bills (water company, bank statement etc) for an old owner of your house what would you do with it?
Tried emailing the sellers solicitor and no reply, and have no details of a forwarding address.
return to sender (for how long)?
bin
Just curious really.

You need to re-post them marked something like 'No longer at this address. Return to sender'.
As for how long, in theory, indefiniately.'Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.' George Carlin0 -
I would just keep returning to sender and I've found that after doing this once or twice most companies stop sending their post to your house.0

Return to Sender. Sometimes it takes utility companies a bit of time to get up to speed but they will get there in the end. I'd RTS for the first bit of junk mail and then bin it thereafter. Redirection is pretty simple in the greater scheme of things so if people can't be bothered then it's their loss .....0

thanks for replies, I thought as much.
I don't like the idea of indefinitely though. Maybe will RTS for 2 months and then bin everything after. Like you say if they cant be bothered redirecting then anything they don't get after that is there own fault.0 -
I bin prev occupier's post, on advice from RM. I used to RTS but I was getting upwards of 7 letters a day for both him and her and it got too much.
Circs are a bit different though, he's now in prison for murdering his wife!!!0 -
The thing is if you bin stuff addressed to the prev owner/tenant you will still get mail addressed to them from these companies as they think these folks still live there. If you want to stop it - RTS.
My parents lived at their old address for 17 years. Last bit of mail addressed to the old owners was delivered 10 years after they moved out!! I put on the envelope 'moved away 1994!'0 -
If you just bin them they will eventually stop coming as the previous owners either update their details because they realize they are not getting their bills or because the sender gives up trying to contact them.
It's the path of least resistance, otherwise the usual tactic of writing "not at this address" and reposting is the only real option, unless you like rather abrasive (but free) toilet paper.0 -
I returned to sender for a while and then after a few months opened them, found they were debts and if possible, I emailed the senders. They tended to take notice of emails and not take any notice of returned mail. I still get letters for them three years on. Some spam companies like specsavers never seem to update their address lists.0
