CPP Redress Scheme letters

Several weeks ago I received a letter from CPP saying I may have taken out CPP protection. It did not say what this protection was for, it just generalised as to what it might have been for. The letter finished by saying I did not need to do anything and that they would be in touch within 12 weeks.
I received a rather bulky letter today from CPP saying I hve to vote on a possible scheme to redress CPP customers. Again, it does not say what this CPP was for, it just says that it is not connected to PPI.
So now I'm totally confused. I have no idea what CPP is. I have no recollection of taking out any protection on a loan or card. Indeed, I have always refused this when put to me save for one time in the late 90's where I was told I would only get a loan if I agreed to take out protection insurance. This was with a high street loan company who has since either folded or changed its name. The paperwork for this is long gone. All I can remember is that it was similar to HSBC in that it was all letters.
Anyway, I digress. If anyone can help me out with what this CPP is I would really appreciate it.
