Must praise Foyles. Ordered a £30 book online with them for OH as a surprise for Christmas. Can you believe it, he ordered self same book, same day it came out in conversation last night! I wondered how much of an uphill struggle/tiresome it would be to get a refund from them.
I called Foyles this morning, no one answered, just a machine saying someone would ring back. I thought let's see.... Within an hour someone did and refunded me there and then. Excellent service with ease. Shall opt for Foyles for books over big A. :T

"big A" I presume is Amazon, and they are more than happy to give refunds for books.
Legally, if you ordered online then you are entitled to return a book under the Distance selling regulations and most retailers should allow returns without too much of a problem.0 -
It's not clear if they had shipped the book yet, or not. It'd be even more impressive if they let you keep it!
I can remember when there a Borders just across the road from Foyles; Foyles outlasted it. Amusingly, Google Street view still has Borders in this shot here, but if you click down the road it transforms right in front of your eyes into TK Maxx! Judging by the cover of SFX in the window the first image is from 2008. The shot of TK Maxx must have been taken at about 06:00, because the whole place is deserted.
I've always felt sorry for Foyles' staff. They have to be educated to degree level but they only earn £15,961 for a job that involves commuting to Central London. Obviously it's cheap student labour, but £15,961 isn't what it was.0 -

For info the book had not yet been shipped from US
See what you mean by the streetview shot!
How on earth can people live a decent life on that salary if they live on their own in Central London or live alone and have to pay a fortune to commute in. I bet that salary is only about £1k net0 -
Foyles have an appalling history in employment rights, though they may be better now, Whilst Christina Foyle was in charge, nobody was allowed to work there for more than 12 months in case they acquired employment rights. The inexperience of staff was reflected in the lack of stock knowledge etc0
