(2)Where the seller sells goods in the course of a business, there is an implied term that the goods supplied under the contract are of satisfactory quality.
The above is taken directly from SoGA and as others have said, second hand goods are still covered, just whats satisfactory quality for a 2nd hand item will differ from a brand new one.
SoGA also says:
(2A)For the purposes of this Act, goods are of satisfactory quality if they meet the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking account of any description of the goods, the price (if relevant) and all the other relevant circumstances.
But even with private sales, they have to match their description/advert. And if you list something in an advert, its a reasonable assumption that it should work - unless the advert specifies otherwise.You keep using that word.
