Thanks Cisco. Someone else has said to me that going for anything less than i7 is a waste of time...would you disagree?

I like the look of this but it's got a bigger screen than I wanted

    One of your suggestions...

    Better size but less RAM?

I don't want to end up with another heap like I have now for the sake of £100.
Sorry to ask so much, but this is a major investment for me and I'm not use to being so clueless when it comes to technology.
I'm also still hesitant about buying something I've never seen in the flesh. YouTube can only show me so much but limiting myself to PC World is a bit poor.

Are you going to take it around and use it on battery?
    Performance wise, Z500 > U410.
    However, Z500 only 2 - 3 hrs battery life. U410 has 7-8 hrs
  • Well that's a massive spanner in the works! I'm never going to find something I likethat is perfect am I?
If my words are missing letters then please excuse me....my keyboard is a tad dodgy!!

    i7 U410 doesn't look appealing when it is £600.

However, £560 would be a lot better

  • Would people complaining of flimsy build quality put you off? The review on Amazon and a video I watched shows the whole keypad bends in when pushed. Not that I see any reason to use more than typing force on a keyboard

how is it getting hard to use for basic tasks - reinstall windows
    !!

  • It's always had a dodgy keyboard - see the note in my signature written when I joined this site (before I got an ipad). The trackpad hardly works, the left and right button doesn't work, it's extremely slow and it's about time I upgraded. My son is 7 so I'll probably buy a new mouse and keyboard and let him have it so it won't go to waste!

Are you going to do a lot of typing?
As far as it work, don't bother.

Just grab a wireless mouse & keyboard. Problem solved

Yes, that's what I'll do to give it to my son but it's no good for me, for video editing it's always struggled.

I would disagree with that. I have a Samsung RF711 i7 at work. I use it for recording live video and slides through Camtasia and some editing. It uses nowhere near the potential processing power and that's recording live with audio throughput, video and slide transitions.

i7 is overkill. I'd say an i3 would be more than adequate for your needs.
