Comparison sites show vastly different results

I'm very confused. I've put exactly the same useage details into several comparison sites plus directly into the energy company sites and I'm getting totally confusing results.

For example, CEC shows a best saving of £92 with Green Energy, uSwitch shows a best saving of £218 with e.on (e.on don't even show up at all on CEC). What's going on, who do I believe?

I want to switch today but I'm so confused I'm tempted to stay with BG!

    Concentrate on kWh per year and how much that fixed amount costs on different tariffs - results should still be in order of price.

    Savings may vary where current or imminent price rises are accommodated differently.

    I'm in the same boat. Every price comparison site is showing big differences in prices, then even bigger ones when I go onto the actual suppliers websites.

    I'm also having a problem with some suppliers not supplying my region so the MSE comparison one gave me a lot of false hope!

    This is exactly what I've done so they should all show similar results I would have thought. I've taken into account pre and post price rises.

    E.on supply my region I know because next door use them, so why should CEC completely ignore them?

    What Region?

    You must enter kWh in the comparison websites and they should all give exactly the same amount - for all regions.

    The exception is if you are on a fixed tariff, that is soon finishing, some websites assume that you will remain with the same company on their expensive standard tariff and give that as your present tariff price.

    e.g. if your fixed tariff finishes, say 31 Dec 2013. you current cost will be shown as 5 weeks and 2 days at your fixed rate charges and 47 weeks at the company's standard tariff rate.

    If you post here your kWh consumption and region, someone will tell you the cheapest tariff.
  • Thanks Cardew.

    British Gas Fix and Fall 2013
    Region = Northwest England
    Useage per annum
    Gas = 15585 KWh
    Electricity = 5074 KWh

    Using a Manchester postcode I get this for you current Tariff:

    http://www.energyhelpline.com/fri/fri/domesticenergy/Domestic/ShowCustomerCurrentTariffs?Id=07b423f7-ca30-47ec-9348-a27e0124b836

    Initially it shows that your spend is £1,585 because it has taken into account the your tariff is finishing and they are assuming that you will stay on BG's Standard Tariff.

    However your actual annual spend is £1,465 as shown here below with the various options.

  • Thanks again. Ovo comes out top for me here and e.on are there too.

    Haven't used this site so I'll give it a try with my post code and see if it makes a difference
  • E.on magically appeared on CEC today showing a saving of £306 against British Gas's new Standard tariff.

    Anyway, made the decision and I'm switching onto monthly DD with E.on. I was paying on receipt of bill with BG so I'm saving a bit more this way plus I get £30 cashback. My brother is switching to them too and it looks like my niece is also considering moving away from BG.

    First time switcher, so fingers crossed it all goes smoothly.
