OS Daily Friday 22nd November 2013

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Another chilly one but at least it does not sound like torrential rain .... yet.

Feels like it's been a long week but should get away early today and am at a conference on Monday so next week will be shorter. Four weeks today and I will have finished for Christmas and forever! Two and a bit weeks off then will start my new job.

Am ashamed to say not much OS going on at the moment, I need to stop using the excuse that I am stressed for not saving money and not losing weight. Though it's true, I can't use this as an excuse for much longer, so I need to get my act into gear.

DH is on a course tomorrow morning, so am going to get going on the decluttering again and keep my fingers crossed for a free listing weekend on ebay.

Julie - when do you go into hospital? Is it Monday?

Better get going so will leave with usual well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

  • Good morning all,I have had a much better sleep over the past few nights as I realised what was waking me up.So simple really I was feeling the cold a bit.Now I'm not keen on heavy winter duvets but a light fleece on top of my normal one seems to hold the heat a bit better and I have resorted to a pair of warm wooly socks (very elegant ,Not :):):)) but elegance aside they keep my old tootsies warm and what a difference, as I don't wake during the night feeling chilly.I'm not keen on too much heat in the bedroom either (I do like it to have an airing during the day and stuffy rooms aren't very healthy I think ) But now I can be cosy in my bed yet still have some fresh air coming in a tiny gap in the top vent of the window .
A silly thing like a light fleece and a pair of socks have given me a far better sleep than usual.

This afternoon I am off to History class,we are still studying WW1 and today we are looking at concientious objectors and how they were treated.Should be interesting.
I managed to get a good few bits yesterday for Christmas presents and it didn't break the bank either this morning after dropping DGS Mikey at school I'm off to Maidstone to buy both of my DDs birthday presents .Both were born in December (worked that wrong didn't I )Eldest on the 2nd and youngest on 19th.I also have to think of something for DGS Ben whose birthday is on the 16th as well. Its all birthdays at the moment I managed to buy my son-in-law Simon's one yesterday His birthday is next Tuesday. No wonder I am always brassic by the time Christmas comes :):):)Still its all good fun really.
Right the kettle is calling so time to get a move on
Have a good day and wrap up warm chums

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Dull, dark, dreich and cloudy - doesn't look like we've had a frost - but look's like it's going to be a miserable day.

DH up and gone to work.

Dinner last night was pork chops, mash, veg and gravy. Cooked the pork chops in the halogen cooker instead of turning the oven on, hope it's saving a bit of electric. Tonight I'm not sure what we will be eating but will be going food shopping shortly, so can decide then. I will also be going to town, and the bank.

I was reasonably productive yesterday, got going with the washing, drying - will continue with that today so I can get the ironing done later. Did the housework, and did a couple of jobs on the pc and made a couple of phone calls. Fed the xmas cake and xmas puds. If I can manage to get it done, I will do some cooking/baking - but that won't be done until after I've got the ironing done. DH and DS1 are working tomorrow so I could do the baking/cooking at my leisure tomorrow.

We've got into a food rut again, so last night spent a little while looking at recipes etc - I'm thinking I'll make a rissotto 1 night next week, and also thinking of a veg/minestrone/leek and potato soup with HM bread/rolls and then a dessert - like a treacle sponge pudding and custard. I've served this before - a starter and a dessert - just for something different and the family loved it - so may do that.

Have a great Friday everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning :hello:
Happy Birthday Hester – sorry I'm late :D:bdaycake:

I wound myself up all week, into a big ball of stress. Went to the dentist yesterday morning – sedation, teeth out and a filling. As I was leaving, I told the dentist I've never hated something so much but at the same time been so grateful for it :D After the appointment I was really tired, I spent the afternoon on the sofa feeling sorry for myself. But sooooo relieved :D I have to go to my normal dentist so he can sort one more tooth out, it'll be nowhere near as much work (or stress, for me!) but I can't face it at the moment. I'll ring towards the end of next week for an appointment.

I mostly ate yogurt and jelly yesterday, at 8pm I managed a couple of slices of soft bread with cheese spread. It took ages to eat and I was so hungry by then, it felt like the best meal ever :D

Just had breakfast – soggy cornflakes :D I'm feeling pathetically weak atm, just from lack of food yesterday. Once I've eaten a bit more I'll be back to normal. Mr tru went shopping on the way home from work, he bought the usuals plus he picked up a few extras he'd knew I'd manage to eat for the next few days – soft white bread, tinned tomato soup and rice pudding. And chocolate :D I can't manage that atm, but I like that it's there, waiting for me :D No plans for today, we'll just laze around.

I thought my wreath was going well, til I saw others when I did a google image search, specially the new one on Attic24. Currently having a re-think :D I've started another baby blanket, at least that's going well, lol.

  • Good Morning All

Tru - I hate dentists too - must find a new one and go for a checkup  glad that your treatment is getting done.

Not cold here this morning and no rain at the moment yay :j

Was exhausted yesterday when I got home from all the driving so nothing was done around the house at all. Only got a few essential bits done in the office too and I cannot see my desk for the paperwork :( so today I need to do a little bit of everything.

DD is at her boyfriends at the moment but will be home tonight, therefore am not sure what is for dinner - will have a route around in the freezer in a mo. Am possibly out for drinks with workmates tonight but not entirely sure if it is going ahead.

Have got a busy weekend so really need to be productive.......best get going then :rotfl:

    Have a great day all.x

    Morning all,

Cold here again but at least dry. Off to work for me but noit until 9.30 so a bit of a lay in.

Julie, did they have the dog from a pup ? I wonder if he was mis-treated by a tall man in the past ? I would suggest the young man gets the dog to trust him but he will have to do it very slowly, kind of sit 3 feet from the dog and do nothing just sit there, once he gets uses to that move a bit nearer etc then slowly put his hand on the dogs bed moving up eventually to stroking the dog, every time the young man can touch the dog without it growling the dog should get a treat.
Also if he can take the dog out for lots of walks (short ones will do at first) the dog will start to trust him, there is nothing a dog likes more than a walk and most would happily go with anyone, good luck and let me know how they get on.

Right better get on need to put a wash on tonight and dinner will be HM curry.

    Have good days all xx

    Morning

trusounds like you have had a traumatic time , hope you are feeling better xx

Day off today , got quite a bit done yesterday. Gave the living room a proper deep clean , took me a good couple of hours and I've reshuffled the furniture , it looks better and it means the radiator is no longer hidden so hopefully will make the room warmer :D

Gave the kitchen and bathroom a good scrub too :D

Need to catch up on some sewing today , but think I'm going to have a quieter day , I've got some reading to do for work .

Bread is proving , looking forward to fresh bread at lunchtime

Have a good day everyone xx

TTFTM yes I've got to be there at 9 so think I must be first down, I'm very scared:eek:
redruby, Topsy thanks for the advice, he was 2 when they got him, it's a shame because Jo is the least aggressive person you could meet, I will pass on the advice.
It's a lovely day here, only 4 degrees but nice and sunny. I'm in Cheshire with DH today once he has finished his jobs we shall pick up DGS and DD from school as she has a big bag to carry as she's been at her BF for the last three days.
Trying to decide on something I can do in one pan tonight, maybe pea and gammon soup and crusty bread as I have some gammon that wants using up. I've got a feeling DS2 and his GF will call at tea time as well so that will be easier. He thinks he may have his first client for his business so is all fired up getting everything sorted and wants to pick his dads brains.
Youngest is off to a gig with his gf this evening, never a dull moment.
I really must pack my hospital bag.
We need some food shopping as well as I won't be able to go and do any shopping for a while
    Have a great Friday x
