Mortgage company may offer a payment break? you seem to be suggesting you have very little debt left to pay as well so i would look to stick it out by cutting back everything else. When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0

UPDATE
Yesterday afternoon I accepted a 2-week freelance booking for the weeks either side of Christmas :T and then got home to a message to call the supermarket. Obviously I can't do both but I feel really bad about letting them down
I have to go with what I know though, the 2 weeks will pay much more than the supermarket though the supermarket could be ongoing and was my chance to have a less stressful life (I've commuted to London every workday for 34 years now, I shudder to think how many years of my life that is spent commuting!)Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

Since a few people have mentioned lately that they like to know how things turned out (on other threads) I am updating my thread.
Since December I managed to get some freelance bookings including one really lengthy one which has got me through to the new tax year when we would have been eligible for benefits but I have had work all through April so didn't need to claim and I have now accepted a job at one of the places I freelanced at.
The salary is less than I can earn freelancing but that's assuming being booked every week which is never going to happen in the current climate plus I hate freelancing. I've gone from having anxiety dreams about work to having happy dreams about starting my new job because I enjoyed the weeks I worked there, the people and offices are lovely and the commute ties in with my train times (I spent all last week somewhere else missing my train by minutes every night)
Bizarrely, the second job that I was waiting to hear back on I also didn't get (I'm shoite at interviews, my last 4 jobs have come about as a result of freelancing there first) booked me to freelance for them for a week (working for the girl who got the job instead of me, go figure??!) and I hated it there and it took me 2 hours to get home every night so that was a lucky escape!
I still keep browsing properties for sale in the area we'd move to if we downsized and, if I want a house rather than a flat, I need to hang on a bit longer for the gap between what we have and what we'd buy to increase a bit more if I am to be mortgage free. The house a few doors down went on the market for 50/75k more than they were going for last year and sold within a week so I think it was right to sit tight.
My latest dilemma is that there is a job advertised somewhere else at the level I am used to working which would pay lots more but comes with more stresses and a less straightforward journey and I'm torn between staying with a decision where I will be skint but happy or getting back on the hamster wheel

For me, it would be skint and happy everytime! Life's too short to spend it being miserable for the sake of an extra few bobs.

After the stressful time you've had, I'd say the happy job is your best choice.
Best of luck.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

I totally understand the impulse to stay with the market and sit tight but the market is out of your control. What if an interest rate rise in the future makes the market tank? What if the area that you propose to move to has a marked increase in sale price while your area stays static, for example.0 -
When you move could you move where there is shorter commute to the new company ?I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

No, that would mean moving closer in to London so property would be more expensive. If we moved it would be to somewhere a little further out but on the same train line as we are currently on.Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

Straight choice then - do you want the downsize and simpler life ........or more money/stress and less time.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
