Share prices, company info and software

I've been looking for free/cheap software that could take some of the effort out of assessing potential shares to invest in. There doesn't seem to be anything suitable so I'm using a combination of Excel and Access (2010) which helps but I'm having difficulty solving the problem of laboriously manually updating share prices, PE ratios etc. etc. I asked my broker if they had anything to assist... they don't. I wondered if anyone could point me to a site that quotes prices and company data that I can put a URL link into a spreadsheet so that I can do an auto update? "Semi real time" would be great (but expensive I guess) so end of day prices would do as a start

    With excel I use the SMF Add In, links to prices on yahoo finance.

    Example of the addin function:-
    Last Trade Price =RCHGetYahooQuotes("BT-A.L","l1")
    Yield =RCHGetYahooQuotes("BT-A.L","y")

    If you can use VBA then you can use web queries to get whatever you want. I don't know of anything currently available commercially that is set up ready to go.

    Sorry for resurrecting an old thread. This works a treat:-

    Should it also work for *fund* prices if I get the ticker symbol correct?

    e.g. I tried =RCHGetYahooQuotes("GB0003879185.L","l1") for Fidelity SE Asia (https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/q?s=GB0003879185.L) without success.

    Haven't studied the smf_addin documentation as yet - all may become clear when I do so.
