vacuum buying

Well I have obviously got to the grand old age where buying a new vacuum is a necessity (and also quite excited about finally being able to have clean floors/carpets without having to use a dustpan & brush or a damp cloth on the rug!)
We have 2 kittens and I regularly lose my hair too
, we only have 1 carpet in our box room and a big rug in our living room, the rest of the flat is laminate and lino. Don't want to spend a fortune but at same time it's desperately needed. Have spent last hour reading reviews & still as confused as ever! I just want something quite light, easy to empty with good suction!
Have been looking on ebay local deals too but don't want a 2nd hand hoover that might not work and no refunds offered.
Any help welcome, thanks!

I want to wear my beautiful wedding dress everyday- it would make shopping so much more fun, I mean, people go shopping in their pyjamas these days.......
Must STOP spending!!!

Proud to be dealing with my debts!

A Henry. Or another Numatic (their commercial machines are also great). They are the best machines, and for £100 a bargain.0

I've had a Vax Air Pet Upright Vacuum Cleaner for a few years now & am very pleased with it, pleased enough to want to buy another if my one ever conks out. It's marketed as one of the lightest full size vacs on the market & when first introduced was around the £280+ mark.
It has come down in price since, probably as they bring new models out & is currently available direct from Vax for under £130. http://www.vax.co.uk/sale/air-pet-upright-vacuum-cleanerThe bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
I've a basic pull along from the supermarket (£25) and it works fine.

My Miele is still going strong after 20 years. Not the cheapest to buy but, with that lifespan, pretty economical to own.
It may not get quite as much use as some people's vacuums though0 -
We use a Sebo for upstairs ie carpets and a Henry for the wooden floors. The Henry is a cracking bit of kit but really not good on carpets as it has no brush.0

Upright or cylinder? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Thanks for your replies. Husband is not keen on Henry hoovers. Will look at the vax.
Don't really mind cylinder or upright-what are the pros & cons of each?Married my wonderful husband February 2013!:happyhearI want to wear my beautiful wedding dress everyday- it would make shopping so much more fun, I mean, people go shopping in their pyjamas these days.......Must STOP spending!!!Proud to be dealing with my debts!0 -
I've had a vax for years, and love it for the price, you can always find one on offer somewhere.

Don't really mind cylinder or upright-what are the pros & cons of each? How many others are British? Vax certainly isn't!
Is Hubby going to be doing the Hoovering? You could always remove the silly face. lol
I'm a recent convert to Numatic vacuum cleaners. They are very good, small and highly functional IMO. They go on forever and rarely break down. Dyson lmao they are lucky to make it past 12 months before parts fail and they are declared not economical to fix.0 -

Maybe that is why Dyson give a five year guarantee.0
