Whitby CO OP car park

I parked on Whitby CO OP car park 11 Sep 2013. My friend purchased the ticket from the machine for two hours of parking. An attendant at the machine said there was no need to display the ticket. I returned after 90 minutes and drove off the car park. Three weeks later I received the parking notice from CE services for £90. I then realised that my friend must have input my registration incorrectly into the machine. I had parked on the same car park the day before but I had purchased the ticket. I also redeemed the ticket value against my CO OP shopping on 10 Sep 2013. If only I had needed to spend more money in the CO OP and hence redeemed my ticket value for 11 Sep 2013 because this would have been recorded somewhere on CO OP systems.
When I received the parking notice from CE 6 Oct 2013 by which time I had thrown the ticket away, I tweeted out immediately that I was never going to Whitby again or shopping at the CO OP. The CO OP must monitor Twitter because they messaged me to phone them. I haven't yet cos was so angry. I have now rec'd a 'Final Reminder Before Legal Action' letter 13 Nov 2013. I feel robbed. CE have access to DVLA but I can't access the ticket machine records to see where my car registration was input in correctly. What can I do?

You should have appealed when you got the first letter in the post. Too late for that now (technically) but never too late to get the retailer to cancel it.
Ring the Co-op back and explain how stressed this has made you, ask that it is cancelled immediately as you were too upset to face it until now and have not appealed, but have gone on some online forums and seen that the Co-op does sometimes cancel these for customers and that CEL have a terrible reputation so why are the Co-op associating with them at all, terrible for the Co-op's ethical reputation to use such a notorious PPC.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
